I accidentally trained my dog that when he's sitting at the top of the stairs and I'm going up, I expect a high five. Also when we are walking if I scuff the ground with my shoes it means we need to stop (this was an accident during loose leash walking training). What have you accidentally trained?

gobucks6 3 days ago Somehow in the course of potty training my dog got the idea that she should nibble my ear if she really has to. I think she did it a couple of times when I was asleep on the couch and she was waking me up. Now if she really has to go out fast she will do anything to lick or nibble my ear. She's a weird dog.

HappyAnimalCracker 4 days ago Accidentally trained my dog not to eat until he gets a kiss on the head. I make him sit, put his dish down, and would give him a kiss right before the release. Now he won't release until he has a kiss.

ioweyouaname. 4 days ago Similarly, my dog was accidentally trained that "boop" with a nose boop is her release command. Still not clear on how that happened, but don't hate it

chartyourway. 4 days ago Davey: Chihuahua/supermutt I taught my boy to hustle. At the park if I called him to catch up to me, if he ran I'd always say "good hustle!" cos he has tiny legs and never runs and it's hilarious to see him chugging. but now if we're at the park and he's taking his sweet time I say "hustle!" and he'll usually(!) start running.

BnWyW 4 days ago I accidentally trained them that if I'm wearing a hoodie there are treats in the pocket. Years later, past the puppy training stage, my girl will go nuts and randomly start cycling through every command she knows when I walk out with a hoodie on. Doesn't matter that there are rarely treats in there anymore, those first 6ish months of puppy training in cold weather stuck with her forever it seems.

WorldsShortestElf 4 days ago I accidentally trained my dog to comfort me. I have emotional issues, and when things get really hard, I'd cry, or (more often) practice grounding by laying on the floor. She knows that if she comes to me while I'm in that condition, she's going to get an abundance of hugs and kisses in between panting/weeping. She comes for the pets, licks my face, and my world goes back to baseline. She brings me stability. I don't know if she knows the difference that she does, bu

Alarming Implement52. 4 days ago My dad has watched my puppy a few times so far and for some reason she thinks she needs to be on the ottoman for him to put a leash on her. He will leash up his dog by the door and mine runs across the room to the ottoman. I think he did that the first time she was there and now she thinks that how it works haha.

schmoopsiedoodle 4 days ago I accidentally trained my dog that she gets a treat every morning and now she is absolutely relentless until she gets one. It all started when I had to go back to the office after the pandemic. I felt guilty about it, so I'd give her a chewy or a treat, scratch her ears, tell her that I loved her and that I'd be right back. Now, even on days when I can work from home, or weekends, she will stand staring at the treat cupboard whining and looking at me until I give her

SpriteAndCats 4 days ago I gave my dog whip cream once. Maybe twice. Everytime the canister goes off, she expects some. It's gotten to the point where if I even open the door, she stops what she is doing and comes expecting me to pull out the canister

future_futurologist 4 days ago I accidentally trained my dog to go to my bed for kisses and belly rubs whenever I turn on my shower. I guess we got into a habit of doing this while the shower warms up and now if I turn on the shower and don't head to the bedroom, she'll come to the bathroom to "escort" me to the bed for her little love love session. It's delightful and I have no regrets!

iwanttocryeveryday 4 days ago I accidentally trained my dog 'go away'. I said 'go away' to him one night when he was being really clingy and I just wanted space, and he looked so sad when I said it so I called him back over to me for pets. I just didn't realise in the moment that I was rewarding him for moving away from me when I said 'go away'. Now whenever I say it, he will just leave. Sometimes he will go to a different room or he will go in to his bed, but he does just leave me alone when I

AccordingWarning9534 4 days ago edited 4 days ago Ah, I have a long list of them and probably won't remember them all but here goes 1. when I wake up, it means we are going for a walk. This is OK most of the time but on those odd days when we can't walk, he is relentless about it. 2. opening the fridge door signals food and results in my dog appearing in the kitchen immediately regardless of where he is or what his doing.

LoosenGoosen 3 days ago I accidentally taught my dog to walk between my legs when it's raining. The first time, I was wearing a knee-length rain coat and she looked so miserable trying to pee while getting rained on, so I straddled her. She finished peeing then, but she didn't want to come out from between my legs. We walked all the way back to the house with her walking in step with me. Now, anytime it's raining, she only walks and pees if she is between my legs.

nvassello 4 days ago Our last dog, we accidentally trained that if we don't cook dinner after work, we're ordering pizza and so he would bark at the door until pizza showed up. For awhile we ordered once a week and delivery times ranged from 30- 90 minutes so he would bark a long time.

Aggravating_Rise_681 · 4 days ago If he doesn't listen and i have to repeat myself, I say "What did I say?", which is his code for " just got real". I also taught him "enough" to stop his barking and "all the way" to get him to go through tunnels completely (he sometimes pulls a u-turn if he thinks it's too dark).

bluehotcheeto. 3 days ago Morning stretch. When I stretch down and touch my toes when I wake up, Cheeto stretches out his front legs and bows in a deep stretch with me. Total accident but so cute!

_grizzlydog. 3 days ago I accidentally taught him how to read my face! When he bops his head into the kitchen when I'm cooking and there is a risk for him to be there, or if I just want to eat in peace. He will look at me, I give him grumpy face or a head nod, he will just walk out again I love that he just understood. No words need to be exchanged.

SeaOtterHummingbird 3 days ago I accidentally taught my dog to come to me after he eats to "check" how his meal was. He gets pets and I saw how was it? Was it delicious? Then he belches and slurps at me. He follows me around and boops me until this is done.

Ok-Cress1284. 3 days ago I trained my dog to smile by giving him a treat whenever he did it, but now he just...does it all the time. Especially if you have food he wants. Somehow he got it in his head that if a smile doesn't work, he should try sticking out his tongue. So if you have food he will stand in front of you, staring, with his tongue out.

pherber12 4 days ago I was trying to train mine to bring me his toys when I ask for them by name - rosie the rhino and ellie the elephant. Sweet pooch would get confused about which I wanted so he would start bringing me anything he could find. So he basically trained himself to bring me stuff when I ask. The other day I sent him behind my desk to fetch something that had fallen behind there that I couldn't reach. To be fair he first tried to bring me the attached computer cables, but then he go
